UNFG and FAO invite the Youth Leadership Council to discuss Food Security!

For the second year, the UNSRC Gardening Club, in partnership with the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO), invited the Youth Leadership Council (YLC), a NYC Parks GreenThumb Programme, to the United Nations to discuss Food Security and Nutrition in urban environments. The event was attended by Youth from all over New York city, participating in urban community gardening during the summer as a way of supporting their communities! The UNFG is honored to be able to annually provide this space for discussion!

Opening Remarks was given in the UN Food Garden at UNHQ by Ms. Paula Gavin, Chief Service Officer of NYC Service and by the Deputy Commissioner Mr. Liam Kavanagh of NYC Parks and Recreation as well as Ms. Carla Mucavi, Director of FAO Liason Office to the UN.

The Panel was a mix of Youth Leadership Council participants, Urban Gardeners, representatives from the International Community and Health Experts from the City:
